HELLO FRIENDS! Welcome to the best time of the whole year to shop beauty products! This post-xmas, pre-new years is an unparalleled time to shop beauty for three reasons:
- Holiday and Christmas collections always come in bundles of multiple products that complement each other. This means you’ll get more product than usual.
- These bundles are often value-driven, hence, already discounted. This means you’ll be paying less than usual.
- Most importantly, after xmas, gift sets are no longer relevant, so they will become even more steeply discounted, since the retailers will want to be rid of inventory. This means YOU are getting an even better deal than the original Holiday deal.
Now that you have some context, you’ll understand why Sephora is currently promoting a 50% off sale that lists 300+ items. It’s like Prime day, but better. DEALS DEALS DEALS.
Who has time to peruse and research 300 products? ME! And I can do this fairly quickly because I spent my last year in the deep ocean of holiday kits and promotional marketing – it’s my job to know! Knowledge is meant to be shared, so here’s what I think is the cream of the crop after checking the list.
Kevyn Aucoin – The Neo-Trio Palette – was $58 / now $25
This artistry brand is bougie kind of like a designer brand. Most of their products sell $50+. This Neo-Trio palette contains three of their highlighter / blush shades that are available for sale as individual, full sizes, each of them selling for $58 EACH. I can tell you by experience literally no one needs that much highlighter, so not only are these mini pans the perfect size, there are also three shades in the palette for variety. At $25, this is probably the best deal I have seen in the entire list. It’s like finding a Vuitton on sale. It doesn’t happen. Run, don’t walk.
Bite Beauty – Champagne Discovery set – was $35 / now $29
I love bite as a brand, and although it doesn’t seem like a drastic drop in price, this kit contains three full size products in really wearable but exciting and universal shades. I love these kinds of lip kits because they’re so versatile. You can go wild and wear all three products together, or wear them in different combinations, or alone. The box also contains their Multistick, which you can wear on eyes, lips, and cheeks. This kit is a clear winner.
Sephora Lip Powder – was $12 / now $5
I put this in the list because I think lip powders are cool, but didn’t really take off in the US as it did in Asia. It’s a very interesting concept and technology. This powder applies to lips and transforms into sort a creamy texture with a satin finish. I haven’t seen anyone besides Sephora really go for it, and at less than a drugstore pricepoint, I feel like it’s a worthy bargain buy.
Deborah Lippmann – Lady in Red – Shades of Red Nail Polish Set – was $36 / now $29
There are SIX stunning and classic shades of red to oxblood nail polishes in this set, and if bought separately, would cost over $70. These colors really can’t go out of style, and while women typically go for the deeper colors in fall and winter, GUESS WHAT, WE STILL HAVE LIKE 4 MONTHS OF THIS SHITTY SEASON LEFT. Plenty of opportunity to play. When it becomes summer, you can play with the brighter, poppy reds. You really can’t lose with this one.
bareMinerals – Nudes for Days – was $24 / now $12
There are six mini lip products in this kit, so you do the math! Three are lipglosses, three are matte lipcolors. These shades are super wearable, super portable, and you’ll find one that will complement any look you’re trying to achieve. My favorite shade is the Buttercream Lipgloss in Cosmic – it’s the perfect pink with gold pearl.
Kiehls – Disney x Kiehl’s Healthy Hydration Set – was $35 / now $26
This is for all my guy friends. I’m not here to take away your masculinity but I think you could all use a little skincare maintenance now and again. This kit has such a creative box, and comes with a bajillion products that are unisex looking and straightforward. I’d be impressed if I saw this in my future boyfriend’s medicine cabinet.
Kiehls – Disney x Kiehl’s Ultimate Man Refueling Set – was $54 / now $41
This is for my guy friends who are extra sensitive about their masculinity. This skincare set is packaged in dark blue and has dude language all over it so you know it’s for a man’s MAN. lol JK (not really). Jokes aside, everything is full sized, there’s an SPF lotion which is very important especially if you don’t have that much melanin, and has scrub and shave stuff too.
Becca Light Chaser Highlighter – was $34 / now $17
Becca is known for their highlighters and there are fun, flip pearl shades (means that there are two different colors depending on the light that hits the pigment) in this collection. I like the Gold shade, and the Amethyst will continue to be trendy since Ultra Violet is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2018. Get glowing!
Now, go get your fix and laugh at all the suckers who paid full price, one of my favorite pastimes. The Asian woman in me is very pleased.
