Rihanna and Amuse Bouche

I’ve been having Rihanna fever the past few weeks and it officially broke the thermometer last weekend, when I attended her concert in Oakland. I picked up tickets to her ANTI tour last minute, and despite the shitty seats, it was a blast and I’m glad to have experienced it. She is an excellent performer and I was actually really surprised at her vocal range and stamina – amazing live voice.

I’ve also decided that I’m not going to take videos again at concerts because I’m pretty terrible at recording – I just re-watched my snapchats last night… blurry / shaky excerpts of Rihanna songs, and a LOT of off key singing (yours truly). Embarrassing 🙂

This is the look I put together for the show. Obviously, it doesn’t matter much what a concert-goer looks like, but oftentimes when I attend concerts, I like to channel the artist in the way I dress. Riri is a bad bitch, fearless and bold in her style, so I thought I’d wear all black with a fierce red lip. And release the hair, of course.

I was waiting for an opportunity to wear my new lipstick too, which I got from Bite Beauty, their Amuse Bouche line. This collection is a wide selection of high-pigment colors, but a super moisturizing formula, with a semi-shine finish. Girls, there are HELLA shades to choose from (32 and counting), and all named after their food inspiration.

The shade I got is called “Maple”. It’s kind of similar to my Bobbi Brown matte red lipstick (this is my problem with make up: I always end up buying something super close to what I already have) but it’s more blue-toned than orange-toned.

I’m a big fan of this formula – I genuinely think it feels different from other lipsticks I’ve own in that it’s an interesting blend of waxy and moisturizing, but in a way that works well. I found that you need to use a little extra pressure when applying because it doesn’t glide quickly over the lips; instead, it has a bit of waxy drag, which can be forgiving because you’re less likely to mess up. Many lipsticks glide on easily and feel great in the beginning, but after an hour, they’ll leave your lips flaky and dry. Not Amuse Bouche – my lips were moisturized for hours.

My only criticism: I think Bite is a very modern and young brand, so I’m not sure why they chose the traditional lipstick bullet for this line… I feel strongly that these are outdated and not optimized for precise application. They’re stubby and fat, and lose their shape after a few uses.

All in all, this lipstick lasted all night and allowed me to express my inner badgalriri so I’m very happy. Until next time…

  1. I love the make on down to the fit. I see you channeled your inner RiRi. You go girl! I’m glad you had a great time. I especially appreciate the distilled l detailed review of the lipstick. I don’t wear Bright red very often because I really have to going somewhere for that.
