What a naughty blogger I am. After an announcement and revamp of the website, I ghost on you for 2 weeks…I’m sorry! I try to post every week but it has been crazy – very busy at work and things to deal with at home. In general, though, I’m happy, healthy and excited about the present and future. While I’m not sure what, why or when, I have a feeling that something big for me is about to unfold. Do you ever get a feeling like that?
Today, I thought I’d give another pixie cut update since it has been a few months since my last, and I gotta let you know what’s up. Not sure if I shared, but I do intend to grow this cut all the way long again, which means I have another year or two to go. #hairgoals2018
No sugar coating – growing out a pixie can be awkward and challenging sometimes (not always). I encounter two issues. One is that my hair very easily becomes a big round mushroom shape due to its thickness. Two is that, while all the hair is growing at the same rate, the bottom section near the neck and ears just look longer and get mullet-y without supervision. Hell no.
Before my last visit with my amazing hairstylist and friend Alisha (at Taylor Monroe in SF) which was a few weeks ago, I hadn’t visited the salon for about 4 months. Even though people say you have to do a lot of pro maintenance with short hair, I wanted to get as much length in as possible, hence the long stretch without cutting. By the time I found myself in Alisha’s chair, I was in dire need in reshaping and cutting the bottom.
Currently, my hair stage is half-way between a pixie and short bob, depending on whether I push the hair in front of my ears (bob) or behind (pixie). The best part about this hair style is that there’s so much versatility in what you can do. You can experiment with parting your hair a different way, or apply different styling products, let it air dry versus blow dry, and the result can be pretty dramatic. As well, it’s still so comfortable and so much lighter than long hair.
I will check back in when this phases out to a real bob, in a few months. If it’s still relevant, I might go for a really severe, sharp A-line bob like Rihanna circa Umbrella -ella -ella -eh.
I hope you’re all doing so well, and as excited about your hair and life as I am. Many blessings!
xoxo
