Evolution of TRACEinthePLACE

I’m so excited to share with you a few updates about my blog, but before that, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me in this project. It’s such fun for me to create the photo and written content, and hearing feedback from friends and fellow bloggers encourages me to continue doing it. Thank you so much for reading, commenting, liking and sharing!

In 2013, I created TRACEinthePLACE as a way for me to break into the beauty industry. I spent my undergraduate years at UC Berkeley focused on my two other great passions, which are psychology and music. Cal is a great school that fostered enormous growth for me as a student and musician, but was limited in what it could teach me about the beauty space. (duh.)

So, I started this blog as a way to demonstrate my knowledge and passion about cosmetics, skincare and hair. Along the way, I’ve joined an amazing community of beauty bloggers who create awesome content, made some cool blog friends, learned how to take a good tripod selfie, and learned why to never get my brows tinted again.

I’m super happy to say my blogging plan worked; I landed a product development internship at a secret, not-yet-launched skincare brand, drawing upon my experience with this blog to show my passion and potential. Fast-forward to now, I am a product developer at the recently-launched and already-successful brand called EVER (a post on this is coming!). Beauty and skincare have taken center stage in my daily life! See?

This is me. At work.
This is me… At work.

Recently, though, I’ve begun to miss my other two passions, and find myself seeking them out. I spend lots of time looking at emerging psych research in books, lectures and TEDtalks, and I enjoy relating it to my own life. I see psychology as the ultimate life hack, because the more you know how your brain and mind work, the more tools you have to create a happy, healthy and meaningful life. My interest in psychology has made me a mental health advocate (see my last post) and inspires me to want to share all the cool stuff I’m learning.

Also, like for many people, music has been a huge part of my life. I’m a singer by nature, and have spent time singing with groups (aca-awesome!). Now, I’m learning the guitar, jamming with musician friends, and am a member of a choral society. I’d love to share these kinds of fun projects with you as they come up.

My all-too-easy solution is to make some room at TRACEinthePLACE to include these other interests of mine. I think it may be primarily beauty-related, but I will begin to incorporate other-related content and creative projects. I’m stoked to start sharing some of the things that move me and hope you’ll find them as impactful as I do. Thanks so much again for your support! ❤

xoxo

  1. Congratulations! Though i’m a new follower, it’s so great to see what opportunities blogging has gave you! I also landed two internships (thanks to blogging) and completely changed my career path from nursing to marketing. So glad to see someone else being able to pursue their passion!

    1. Hi Diana! Thanks so much for commenting and sharing your story! I think blogging is such a great way to connect with people who share the same interests, and you meet a lot of awesome people while you’re at it. You have a new follower in me! xo Trace

  2. Definitely make room on your blog for your other interests if that’s your plan! 🙂 It’s so cool you can sing, would love to hear a sample of that!
I’m addicted to music as well (can’t sing at all, though) and also thought about mentioning it and other stuff (films, tv series..) on my blog more, I’ll see how that goes.
Anyway, looking forward to the diversity of topics on your blog! 🙂

    1. thanks for the feedback! it’s all really a big experiment for me and i really appreciate the support. i love your posts on beauty and think i’d also love to hear your take on tv / film / music, even just sprinkled into your regular stuff to start.
