Review on Sephora Cream Lip Stains

Buenas readers! Today I’m doing a product review on these gorgeous Cream Lip Stains from Sephora. For those bright lipstick wearing people who haven’t yet experienced these products, it is about time you go get you some. I don’t spend time talking about make up products I’m not in love with, and these have easily become some of my favorite!

What it is: a long-lasting, highly pigmented cream that glides on as a liquid, but dries quickly to a matte finish and texture. They come in a variety of colors, but all of them, including the lighter colors are extremely opaque and provide huge color payoff. I think the word “stain” in the name is a bit misleading because this isn’t a subtle stain; this stuff is like heavy duty lip paint…. and I mean this in the best way possible. I find it perfect because 1. I don’t like to feel product on my mouth unless it’s lip balm, 2. I don’t like my lip color moving anywhere that is not my lips…this includes my napkins, my food, my teacup and 3. I LOVE high impact color but only when takes a super matte finish. These lip cream stains definitely fit the bill here; once it’s on dry, it stays put for hours without budging.

My first purchase was the Lip Cream Stain in Endless Purple, a deep plum/burgundy shade, back in December, and I thought it was so impressive that I made two more purchases: one in Forever Fuschia and the other in Deep Beige. The former is an extreme, bright, Nicki Minaj pink that I would never consider by just looking at the color alone. The only reason I fell in love with it was because I got to playing around at Sephora, and realize it was a flattering shade, and although not an everyday color, would be so fun and distinctive for other occasions. The latter is this brown shade, which I also would have never considered but loved it when I put it on. Out of the collection of shades available, I feel like this is one of the more wearable and subdued colors. I also felt like both of these colors were so throwback to iconic looks of the past decades. That bright pink feels so ’80’s to me ( Pat Benatar, Madonna, Blondie) and the brown-beige felt so ’90’s (Naomi Cambell, Posh Spice, TLC)… I was standing at this crowded Sephora feeling some type of faux nostalgic way. So dramatic!

Anyway, I love the way these both look. My gripes? They can be drying if you don’t use a teeny bit of lip balm underneath… which I kind of already expect with a matte formula, so I’m not surprised. These creams can also be tricky to apply. Since they pack so much punch, the thinness and spreadability of the product can work against you, so that if you do make a mistake, it’s not as forgiving as a sheer lipstick you can simply wipe off. Then again, since they are so thin, you can probably wipe quickly and relatively painlessly. But what challenges they do present, I think, are worth it since the color is so intense and long-lasting. Oh, and also, I don’t think it’s a major issue for a lot of people, but I have no idea what is making this formula so good, and it’s probably made out of a bunch of some weird and gross stuff… I know they’re trying to mask it with a nice vanilla flavor, but it’s hiding somethin’… I am going to turn a blind eye to it since I love it so much and use it not too frequently for fear of overwhelming people on the weekdays. I do think these will make the wearer feel FLY as hell so it’s all worth it in the end… right?! 😉

Oh, also, it’s $13..NOT BAD AT ALL! Anyway, go pick up this product if you’re looking for a new product to try, are not afraid of boom boom pow lip color and appreciate a no-fuss formula.

xoxo
