My long awaited Mayer Hawthorne concert finally came around this Saturday and it was a blast, despite our nosebleed seats and someone spilling beer on me (it is the second time this has happened at a concert… I AM CURSED!). I’m used to attending arena shows because I am a shameless consumer of pop music, and don’t usually shell out the $ unless I know I’m in for a SHOW. No fireworks or laser beams or pyrotechnics at this show, but the smaller spot (compared to an arena) definitely has perks. This venue is a BEAUTIFUL theatre, and there is so much art and detail everywhere, from the two giant gold buddha statues, to the textured, patterned ceilings, to the interesting lighting. And, of course, Mayer did not disappoint either. His vocals were strong the whole night, and he has a more expansive falsetto range than he shows off on his album which is cool. There was some cute and fancy footwork, to accompany some of his more doo wop-ey, soul-sounding numbers, and he did pull out his guitar a few times for a few other songs. Highlights of the night for me were basically any time he played my favorite songs: Back Seat Lover and Designer Drug got me pumped in the beginning, so I was on my feet the whole time (sorry dude behind me, that’s what you get for pouring your drank on me!). He tried to trick the audience members in the end though when announced his last song without performing his biggest two singles, so I almost left feeling disappointed… but, a good show never disappoints and he came back out to perform Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out and ended with Her Favorite Song. At that point, people had already left thinking the show was over – I knew better than that – and I ran to the front of the balcony section to sing along with him. It was perfect! Here are some more photos from the concert.

Here I am! For make up, I wore a smudge-y eyeliner with mascara, some rose-colored lipstick and a bit of gloss… (and obviously some concealer because unlike Beyonce I did not ‘WAKE UP LIKE DIS’). I am wearing a white lace/chiffon blouse from Forever 21… and it’s definitely F21 quality because not 2 hours after wearing it the first time the button in the back fell off… AND also featured are Stella & Dot earrings, cuff and purse. My hair has deflated at this point despite my efforts to tease, dry shampoo and bobby pin it… but spirits are still up!

Keeping warm and smiling lots after a very entertaining show. Check his music out if you haven’t already!
